Hang in there, Brother. My USMC recruiter told me I’d have free medical care for life if I joined up for a tour in 1964. Sure. Got shot, ended up with a 20% disability, still haven’t seen any VA. Go get ‘em.
Thank you so much for doing this. My Dad was a soldier in WWII. When he returned, he was not the same person, but he could not get help. All we knew was that he had gone into the concentration camps in Germany as an Army medic when they were liberated at the end of the war. We didn’t know details. It is shameful that our country can send people like yourself to fight and then not give you every type of medical and financial benefit you deserve. Good luck.
I served for 21 yrs, including a tour in Nam Nov67-Nov68. Thanks to those who have served and those who are stilling serving.
I applaud your efforts with those who have been treated so shamefully
Thank God for people like you and Laura Curtiss Palmer who pointed me in this direction. I was feeling so isolated and wondering if there was anyone out there who would care about my son and what he is going through. Hopefully now we can get him the help he needs after the Army used him up and threw him out. It is a disgrace that my son put his life on the line and is now working at Hardees right outside Ft. Stewart where he was discharged and tossed out like garbage. I’m beginning to think th
Chuck I thank you for your efforts that you are putting forth to help those who have served their country with honor, asking nothing in return; but now are faced with discharge with no benefits or have been imprisoned with long sentences and no real legal counsel. Thanks for being here, and I remember what you said “Pay It Forward” Let me know what I can do to help in the cause. I am spreading the word.
A new Year approaches. If you are facing uncertainty in your military career, please know, there are options. Contact this man- he has a heart for soldiers. Trust me, I know.
It brings me to tears to hear chucks and everyone elses story because it hits so close to home. God bless chuck and his continuing efforts to do what is right by our soldiers coming home. Where there once was no hope is a shinning light at the end of the tunnel and that is all some need to keed going, hope! You are truley a warrior and leader. Thank you for all you do Chuck!
Thank you for your courage, for staying alive and speaking out despite the torment of PTSD symptoms and mistreatment by the very institutions that should be helping you and all of our soldiers and family members. As the step-mother of a Sergeant in the Marine Corps on IRR after two Iraq tours, I am a member of Military Families Speak Out (www.mfso.org).
2004 a Sgt. Maj. impaired from Afghan combat, paranoid, unstable was moved to my husband’s base. Chaplain gave me the number to report him, warned me not to report or my husband’s career would be derailed with 1.5 years left for pension. Then hubby deployed, and stop/loss. It’s been four years, he’s had a breakdown and wants a divorce. Chaplain now says to be less concerned about his suicide, and more about his potential damage to me. I bit my tongue in 2004 and am now losing my marriage
I hope you can help my husband, what they are doing is not fair!
As a former army wife with days spent at Ft. Hood, I support your efforts in behalf of our wounded troops whole heartedly. This kind of neglect goes beyond tragedy, and it must end. Let me know how I can help.
Chuck, I respect your approach to this problem and I definitely appreciate what you are doing. Yes we are “expendable” and “throw aways.” Your Army my Army failed you, they brushed you away like debris. I hope and pray for SAG to get going strong. Right now our Troops are on the “top shelf” for all to view. But when hostilities subside then we are out of sight and out of mind. We all will be forgotten…. John C. Birch Jr. SSG. USArmy Retired
Dahr Jamail wrote: “Over 43,000 troops classified as ‘non-deployable for medical reasons’ have been deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan anyway.” If a large percentage of these re-deployed soldiers have routinely been put on medication, then a serious flaw in this errant policy should be investigated. Given that a typical psychotropic drug results in about 1% tending to suicide, how close to some four thousand soldiers are impending fratricide-suicide candidates?
Much is written about the plight of our active duty military. Not much in the media as to what happens when they are discharged & returned to civilian life. After being over-medicated & under treated by the VA, my husband “snapped”. An altercation with law enforcement resulted in a wounded officer & my husband being shot twice. He never had a criminal record prior to this. He has 15 felony counts now & could face the rest of his life in prison. My blog for his story is jpldefen
I was a young woman with veteran friends after the Vietnam non war. We lived in the woods…. they were so PTSD and we didn´t know the name in those days. I am so proud of you and all that you are doing and every soldier who serves his country… gives up everything including his soul and his humanity. Thank you for doing what you are doing and opening up this shameful shameful subject to the light where there can be some honesty and healing for you and all who can hear your message.
Chuck, you are one of my heroes. Keep doing what you’re doing brother. We (a lot of people including me and Faith) are praying for you and the fam.
CHUCK, I AM SO THANKFUL THAT GOD ALLOWED ME TO BE HONORED BY GIVING ME A SON LIKE YOU. I WOULD NEVER CHANGE “ANYTHING” ABOUT YOU. I AM SO VERY PROUD OF YOU SON! KEEP UP THE WONDERFUL WORK YOUR DOING FOR YOUR FELLOW WARRIORS! I LOVE YOU, YOUR MOM

I can attest that Chuck is a devoted man. He has busted his butt to ensure that every case, gets the care that it deserves. Countless hours, thousands of miles driven across the country, multiple interviews, all of this to make sure that every soldier is taken care of as best as he can. He is a hard worker. I truly appreciate what he does. Chuck Luther upholds the NCO Creed. I am very proud of him. Chuck if you ever need me, give me a call.
Thank you so much, Chuck. You have no idea what your support means to me!
I cannot describe the immense sense of honor that I feel upon the founding of this website. Although it is unfortunate that we should require help outside of our own institution, I have known that this has been an inevitability for a long time. I look forward to helping you in any manner possible.
